Hi everyone, Happy Fall! The colors here in New Jersey have been exceptional this year and I hope you all have enjoyed this time of year also.
I thought it would be good to reconnect with everyone and give you an update on some things going on with our class:
Next Zoom Call: December 8th
You will be hearing more about this soon, but I am excited that our classmates, Dr. Jodie Hurwitz, Cardiologist, and Dr. Cathy Kowal-Montecalvo, Rheumatologist, have agreed to lead our first class zoom call, post-reunion, and I know we will all learn so much about our health as we enter the latter part of our 6th decade. So please put this on your calendar and you will be getting a separate email soon with more details.
Mini-reunions:
You know this is something I have been encouraging for years and after such a great 45th reunion in May, it seems many of you have made an effort to meet with your classmates, either for small lunch get-togethers, bigger brunches, and long weekends together. These have taken place in Boston, DC, NY, NJ, Arkansas, and meeting places II haven’t even heard about. This makes me so happy. LET’S KEEP IT UP. And please send info and photos on other mini-reunions to our webmaster, Alex Woody ([email protected]), and post on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/469659729718169
And many of us joined the Mount Holyoke Club of Westchester (NY) Book Club discussion of “The Personal Librarian” about Belle da Costa Greene, who worked as J. P. Morgan’s personal librarian. And the next day we went into NYC and had a great docent tour of the Morgan Library. It was such a great day and many thanks to Nancy Mathiasen for setting it up.
And many of us are lucky enough to live close to NYC and able to attend the play TOPDOG/UNDERDOG on December 4th. This is the first Alumnae Association Launching Leadership program, and will include a conversation with playwright Suzan-Lori Parks ’85 , producer Debra Martin Chase ’77 (Yeah Debra!!!) and Interim President Beverly Daniel Tatum immediately after the show.
Class Activities
- Knit-A-Long: Suzanne Duncan and our indomitable knitters have continued to meet to share their creative output and also to “just talk”. The next KAL meeting is MONDAY November14th, so if you would like to join, please contact Suzanne at [email protected]
- Quilt-A-Long: it is exciting to announce that Chris Bryce Sass is an expert quilter and is willing to teach we neophytes to learn to quilt or have existing quilters join the discussion to gain additional skills. And here is a 3-minute video of Chris’ quilt show because it shows clearly that these are not our grandmothers’ quilts. https://youtu.be/FAojjPjz89U Write to Chris ([email protected]) or me ([email protected]) and let us know your interest. And Chris and I will send out more info regarding the date of the first meeting.
- Class of 1977 Book Club: We are still working on this and more information will be coming
50th Reunion
Its never too early to start thinking about our 50th reunion and how we can make it our best reunion ever. Cathy Gibson and Chris Bryce Sass would love to hear from you with your ideas or if you would like to volunteer in any way, so please use the contact form on 2027 Reunion page.
Dues
As I mentioned in my last eblast, we have a new Class Treasurer, Susan Clark, and the hand-off from Sue Hardy to Susan is complete. Right now we can only accept checks, although we are working on re-establishing PayPal. Go to our class website page (https://new.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/1977/dues/) and you will find Susan’s contact information to send a $100 check (or whatever you feel is right). And if you are not sure if you’ve paid, go to this link and you will find the list of our classmates who have already paid dues.
One more note: If you want to respond to anything in this email, please do not hit “Respond” because it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Just click any of the links embedded in this e-blast.
I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, with good health and happiness. And I’ll see everyone on December 8th.
Fondly,
Liz
